Michigan head coach John Beilein reportedly interviews for Pistons’ job

In a report that has come completely out of nowhere, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is noting that Michigan head basketball coach John Beilein has interviewed for the Detroit Pistons’ head coaching vacancy.

Beilein joins other notable candidates to replace Stan Van Gundy in that role, including former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey.

John Beilein, 65, has coached the Wolverines basketball program since 2007. Prior to that, he served as the head coach at West Virginia, Richmond, Canisius and Le Moyne.

In his 11 seasons with Michigan, Beilein has posted a 248-143 record. This past season saw him lead Michigan to the National Championship Game. The program has made the Sweet 16 in three of the past five seasons.

This would be the ultimate out of the box hire for a Pistons organization that has been hit with hard times in recent seasons.
