Michigan head basketball coach John Beilein has been in the news of late because he’s been one of the top candidates to replace Stan Van Gundy as the head coach of the Detroit Pistons.
On Wednesday, Beilein removed himself from consideration for that open position with a tweet in which he made it clear he’s committed to Michigan for the foreseeable future.
I love the University of Michigan and I am excited about coaching our Men’s Basketball Team next season and in the years to come ! Let’s go hang some more banners at “THE GREATEST UNIVERSITY IN THE WORLD “#GoBlue

This is obviously great news for the Michigan basketball program. Beilein has been a tremendously successful coach for the Wolverines, who were just one win away from winning a title during the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
It also likely means that, barring a shift in strategy from the Pistons, former Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey is the favorite to land that job.
