Former MLB All-Star Jayson Werth announces his retirement

After a 22-year career as a professional baseball player, including 15 seasons in the majors, outfielder Jayson Werth bid his farewell to the game on Wednesday.

According to Fancred Sports, Werth revealed he is done with baseball. A career that started when the Baltimore Orioles selected him the No.22 pick in the 1997 MLB Amateur Draft ends in the minor leagues.

The 39-year-old, who finishes his career with 229 home runs, 799 RBI and a .267/.360/.392 slash line, backs away from the game after a disappointing stint in Triple-A this season.

He signed with the Seattle Mariners this offseason in the hopes of a bounce back. Instead, Werth found himself with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.

Werth dealt with a hamstring injury this season and stumbled in the minors. In 36 games with Tacoma, he slashed .206/.297/.389 with four home runs.

He made the All-Star team in 2009 and won a World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008.
