Baker Mayfield blown away Bills gave Tyrod Taylor up for third-round pick

There seems to be a strong, budding relationship between Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Tyrod Taylor that could pay dividends in the future.

Mayfield opened up about his new teammate in an appearance on the ThomaHawk Show, noting that Taylor has been overwhelmingly supportive to him as he gets his feet wet in the NFL.

He also couldn’t believe that the Buffalo Bills gave up Taylor for just a third-round pick earlier this offseason.

“They traded a third-round pick to Tyrod just doesn’t make sense,” Mayfield said (h/t Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk). “We got a lot more out of that than anybody else could. The guy that he is for this franchise, for all of our teammates is unbelievable. For me to watch him and learn him has been great. He sets the bar high, shows up, his work ethic, it’s a great situation for me to come into to have someone like that. It’s good for me.”

Mayfield has earned the praise of head coach Hue Jackson, though the latest reports indicate he’s nowhere near ready to supplant Taylor as the team’s starter.

But even if he were, it sounds like Taylor is taking the high road here by giving Mayfield every chance to learn what it takes to be a professional.
