Tickets for Stanley Cup Final approaching record prices

The upcoming clash between the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Final was an improbable matchup. And the ticket prices for NHL’s championship series are reflecting it.

Rachel Koning Beals of MarketWatch shared data from TicketIQ, a secondary-market ticket tracker, and noted the “get-in price” for the series is above $900. Games played in Vegas run $925, and clashed in Washington are $904.

Those are the highest prices since TicketIQ began tracking data in 2011, per the report.

Additionally, the most expensive tickets are both north of $2,000 at either location, with Vegas’ $2,505 only trailing 2017 Nashville ($2,664).

The reason is two-fold but simple: Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals have consistently made the playoffs but never before reached the Eastern Conference Finals, let alone the Stanley Cup Final. And Vegas didn’t have an official roster at this time in 2017.

So, the NHL will either enjoy a recognizable franchise breaking a 43-year championship drought or an expansion team winning the Cup in its first season. History will be made either way.

And it’ll be expensive to watch that history in person.
