Pennsylvanians naming babies after Carson Wentz at eye opening clip

The Philadelphia Eagles and franchise quarterback Carson Wentz are the toast of Pennsylvania after earning their first ever Super Bowl title with an upset victory over the vaunted New England Patriots back in February.

How popular are the Eagles in the Keystone State? Well, Pennsylvanians are naming their babies after Mr. Wentz at a high clip.

According to the US Social Security data base (h/t NBC Sports Philadelphia) over 300 babies were named Carson in Pennsylvania last year. This chart shows just how rapidly the growth has been.

In fact, Carson is now the 39th most popular name in the state.

Despite suffering a torn ACL late in the 2017 season, Wentz is considered one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL. An MVP candidate for a vast majority of the season, Wentz completed north of 60 percent of his passes for 3,296 yards with 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions.

Should Wentz continue to act as the franchise quarterback for an Eagles team with championship aspirations once again in 2018, we can expect his popularity in Pennsylvania to grow even more.
