Magic reportedly interested in Michigan State’s Tom Izzo

The Orlando Magic are casting a wide net in their search to replace recently fired head coach Frank Vogel.

According to Michael Scotto of The Athletic, that now reportedly includes longtime Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo.

Having been with Michigan State since 1983, it’s not yet known whether Izzo would even be interested in making the transition to the NBA. Other teams have in the past shown a great deal of interest in his services.

The familiarity of East Lansing coupled with Izzo’s success at Michigan State leads us to believe this is a long shot for Orlando. After all, Izzo has earned an NCAA title and seven Final Four appearances since taking over as the program’s head coach back in 1995.

Orlando is coming off a 2017-18 campaign that saw the team boast a 25-57 record. It has not earned a playoff spot since all the way back in 2011-12.
