The Oakland Raiders won’t stop adding aging veterans to their roster. Jon Gruden’s team headed into Friday having signed a whopping 17 free agents from other teams. They added another to the mix in the form of former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson.

But don’t let that distract us from the fact that Oakland is still out here looking to add even more 30-plus year old talent to its roster.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders will host former Houston Texans Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Cushing for a meeting this weekend.

It really is like Oakland is becoming the final stop for players who are ultimately going to be retiring here soon. Maybe, the NFL’s version of Arizona and Florida.

Cushing, 30, played in just five games for the Texans last season after being suspended 10 games for violating the NFL’s PED policy. Prior to that, he dealt with a multitude of injuries after jumping on to the scene as the Defensive Rookie of the Year back in 2009.

There’s no real logic to this possible signing. Oakland already has a trio of starting linebackers in the form of Bruce Irvin, Tahir Whitehead and Cory James. Prior to signing Derrick Johnson earlier in Friday, the team also brought in veteran linebackers Emmanuel Lamur, Kyle Wilber and the above-mentioned Whitehead on free agent deals.
