Florida recruit Justin Watkins arrested for trespassing in strange case

Justin Watkins — an incoming recruit for the University of Florida’s football team — is in some trouble with the law. Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times reported that that that Watkins was arrested for trespassing, stemming from an incident that began with a female student.

“Watkins then took her cell phone, left and later threw it on the ground, shattering its screen,” Baker reported, citing the probable cause affidavit. “Watkins followed the female to the student parking lot at a Marion County high school. He then kicked her car and tried to let air out of the tires — an action confirmed by the school’s video surveillance.”

Since Watkins was not a student at the school, he was arrested for trespassing. He was eventually released on $500 bond. Florida coach Dan Mullen issued a statement, saying “We are aware of the incident with Justin and are still collecting information.”

ESPN ranked Watkins as a four-star recruit and the 28th best prospect in the country. He was recruited as an athlete. While he made a splash with big plays as a receiver, recent reports indicated that he was likely to play at corner with the Gators.
