Dak Prescott aiming to be Cowboys’ greatest QB ever

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott in NFL Week 2

Dak Prescott has only played two NFL seasons, but the Dallas Cowboys quarterback holds a lofty aspiration for his career at the storied franchise.

According to Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News, Prescott said he wants to be remembered as the greatest quarterback to ever play in Dallas.

“I want to be the best I can. I want to be the best quarterback that the Cowboys ever had. So when I go in each and every day, it’s just about being the best player I can be. All that stuff comes when you play the game well.”

That’s certainly a high bar, considering Roger Staubach led the Cowboys to four Super Bowls in the 1970s and won two. In the mid-1990s, Troy Aikman oversaw a trio of championship-winning teams.

Additionally, Tony Romo was an under-appreciated star who became the franchise’s all-time leader in touchdowns and yards.

Prescott is a decade away from the conversation truly being entertained, but it’s an important goal to have. For now, he’s focused on bouncing back from a disappointing 2017 where he threw 13 interceptions and Dallas missed the playoffs.

If he performs well in 2018, though, Prescott will be eligible for and deserving of an extension next offseason. Then, he’ll have a long-term opportunity to rise the impressive ranks of Cowboys quarterbacks.
