Chiefs’ Demetrius Harris suspended one game for violating substance abuse policy

Demetrius Harris

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Demetrius Harris was arrested last year for possession of marijuana in Missouri. Ultimately, the young tight end would serve two days in jail after copping a plea with authorities.

While Harris is now out of hot water off the field, the NFL came down big time on him Tuesday.

The league has reportedly suspended the 26-year-old pass catcher the first game of this coming season for violating its substance abuse policy.

A former standout at Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Harris entered the league as an undrafted free agent back in 2014. He has since made himself a pretty big part of the Chiefs’ offense, having recorded 18 receptions and 224 yards as Travis Kelce’s primary backup last season.

It remains to be seen whether this suspension will have any impact on Harris’ future with Kansas City. He signed a three-year extension with the team late in the 2016 season.
