Cardinals pitcher Alex Reyes returning to DL

A day after pitching in his first MLB game in nearly two years, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Alex Reyes is heading back to the DL.

Reyes, who hadn’t previously pitched since September of 2016, was pulled from Wednesday’s outing after four innings. On Thursday, it was announced that Reyes had suffered a strain to his right lat and was heading back to the disabled list.

The good news is that the problem is not in his arm, specifically his elbow. That’s the first concern for anyone coming off of Tommy John Surgery. Still, this is certainly not what anyone wants to see. But time will tell how serious this injury actually is.

Reyes remains one of St. Louis’ best young arms. The Cardinals are certainly going to be cautious with the 23-year-old right-hander, especially as he returns from injury.

Prior to getting pulled on Wednesday, Reyes had allowed no runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in four innings.
