Yadier Molina and Torey Lovullo each suspended one game

Discipline has come down from Sunday’s bench clearing incident that stemmed from a war of words between Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo and St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina.

Both men have been suspended for one game. Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch noted that Molina will appeal his suspension.

Goold also noted that in all likelihood, Molina will serve his suspension on Wednesday, which was a likely off day for him anyway. Lovullo, meanwhile, will serve his suspension on Tuesday.

Certainly, Lovullo used words that he shouldn’t have about Molina. He said as much in his postgame interview. As such, his suspension is fairly hard to argue with.

Molina’s might seem unusual, given that he wasn’t even ejected from the game. On the other hand, his outburst at Lovullo included contact with an umpire. It was always hard to imagine that going unpunished.
