Wizards could reportedly make a play for Bradley Beal this summer

As the Washington Wizards continue to struggle on the court during this year’s NBA Playoffs, there’s a decent chance the team could blow everything up during the summer.

By now it’s well known that there’s a rift between head coach Scott Brooks and his two star players, Bradley Beal and John Wall. That’s taken to the media in recent weeks and isn’t a good look for this underperforming squad.

Down 2-0 in their first-round series against the Toronto Raptors heading into Friday’s game, things could very well reach a boiling point here soon.

Now, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, there’s rumors circlulating that teams could make a play for Beal should he be made available in a trade this summer. The basketball insider goes on to specifically mention the Los Angeles Clippers as a prime potential landing spot.

“If they made Bradley Beal available, I mean this is a guy with three years left on his contract, you would have multiple aggressive bids,” Windhorst said (h/t The Hoop Collective). “You know what team that would be interesting for Bradley Beal would be the Clippers. They have two lottery picks. They’re in the need of a star.”

It’s not yet known whether Washington will place Beal on the trade block. But the team is going to have to make some dramatic changes if it wants to be relevant back east moving forward. That could include trading either Wall or Beal.

If that’s the case, Los Angeles is indeed a logical landing spot. As Windhorst notes, it has two lottery picks after acquiring one from Detroit in the Blake Griffin deal. It also has ample young players that could interest the Wizards.

It’s an intriguing dynamic to look at as the Wizards play out what has been a drama-filled season in the nation’s capital.
