Warriors officially rule Stephen Curry out for Game 1 against the Spurs

In what can’t count as a major surprise heading into the NBA Playoffs, the defending champs have ruled two-time MVP Stephen Curry out for Saturday’s series opener against the San Antonio Spurs.

Curry, 30, suffered a sprained MCL back in March after returning for just one game from a previous ankle injury. It was initially reported that the star guard would miss the entire first round of the playoffs. We’re not sure that Golden State’s announcement on Friday changes this at all.

Limping into the playoffs, Golden State has lost 10 of the past 16 games Curry has missed. Though, its first-round matchup against a Spurs squad that’s going to be without Kawhi Leonard was a pretty good draw for the defending champs.

Curry should be back at some point during the conference semifinals should Golden State advance through the first round.
