Sean McDermott ‘satisfied’ about chat with Zay Jones, ready to move forward

Zay Jones arrest

The strange off-field incident that put Buffalo Bills receiver Zay Jones firmly in the national spotlight this offseason is now something the team wants to put in the rear-view mirror.

Head coach Sean McDermott, speaking to reporters on Monday, said he is “satisfied” after discussing the matter with Jones.

“We all agree we need to move forward, and I’m excited about the future for Zay,” McDermott said, per ESPN’s Mike Rodak.

Jones was videotaped naked and bloody, and he had to be held back from jumping through a glass window by his brother, Cayleb Jones. He was briefly placed in custody but was ultimately never charged by police due to a lack of evidence.

Afterward, Jones said he was “thankful to be alive.”

The Bills had previously indicated the incident would not impact Jones’ status with the club. The second-year player was selected in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of East Carolina. He is coming off an up-and-down rookie campaign that saw him catch 27 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns.
