Report: Lamar Jackson visiting with Bengals

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the most intriguing players in the 2018 NFL draft

The Cincinnati Bengals are a team that should be looking into quarterbacks, given the lack of true success in recent years with Andy Dalton at the helm. And according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer, they are. Lamar Jackson is visiting the Bengals on Monday, which is significant this late in the proceedings.

Jackson has been linked to none other than the New England Patriots of late, among other teams. Cincinnati has the No. 21 overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, which also is significant to this conversation given New England has the No. 23 overall pick, acquired in the trade with Los Angeles that sent Brandin Cooks to the Rams.

Dalton is officially signed through the 2020 season, but the Bengals could cut him today and hardly lose any money. He had a built-in out in which Cincinnati could release him following the 2017 season and only owe $2.4 million in dead cap this year.

That’s not likely to happen, but it does mean Dalton is a lame duck. This means drafting his replacement should be at the top of the team’s to-do list. And if that’s the plan, the Bengals could do a lot worse than landing the former Heisman Trophy winner.
