Nick Foles speaks out on trade rumors, would love to start somewhere

Nick Foles

Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback and reigning Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles just recently talked about the trade rumors that surrounded him earlier in the offseason.

Foles toed the company line to an extent. However, there are parts of his comments that make us think the veteran would love to be given an opportunity to start somewhere else next season.

“I know there was some stuff going around, a possible trade, and I would love the opportunity to be a starter again. I know my spot in Philly,” Foles told KVUE in Texas (h/t the Philadelphia Inquirer). “I think I’ve shown what I can do.”

Coming off a playoff run that saw him put up nearly 1,000 yards with six touchdowns, Foles found himself as the subject of multiple trade rumors back in February and March. At this point, nothing seems to be happening on that front. Though, things could very well change between now and the end of the 2018 NFL Draft late next week.

For now, it seems that Foles might not be okay with heading into the 2018 season as the backup to Carson Wentz.

“I’m signed for one more year and I love the team, I love the city. I’m excited for Carson (Wentz) to get back on his feet. I’ll be ready to go whenever they need me,” Foles continued. “But we’ll see.”

It sure sounds like someone is angling for a starting opportunity elsewhere next season. But alas, that’s not up to Foles. As he notes, the quarterback is under contract for one more season. Short of Philadelphia being blown away with a trade offer, the team is going to keep Foles as insurance for a quarterback in Carson Wentz who is coming off a torn ACL.
