NFL coach asked prospect how he’d respond if he punched him in the face

One of the many steps in the NFL Draft process includes teams interviewing prospective draftees. At times, the questions are ridiculous. Other times, they’re more entertaining. A question that was asked of Jerome Baker definitely falls into the latter category.

In an interview with Draft Wire, the Ohio State linebacker was asked to share the strangest question asked of him in the process.

“The one question that sticks out is I sat down, and the first thing the coach asked me is what I would do if he punched me in the face right now? To me, being from Cleveland, my natural reaction was, ‘Coach, no disrespect but if you punch me in the face, we’re gonna fight right here,'” Baker said. “That was just my natural response. I guess that’s what he wanted to hear, because he said, ‘Good.’ It was definitely a fun interview. I didn’t get asked too many weird questions.”

That certainly would be an odd question to be asked of someone you’re probably trying to impress. For Baker’s sake, it’s a good thing that he answered the question in a satisfactory way.

Baker was in on 72 tackles for the Buckeyes during the 2017 season, including eight for a loss. He also recorded three sacks, forced two fumbles, and recovered another one (which was returned for a touchdown).

And for potential opponents, let there be no doubt as to what might happen if you challenge Baker. Do so at your own risk.
