Kyrie Irving will reportedly miss remainder of the regular season and the playoffs

On the heels of undergoing knee surgery recently, Boston Celtics guard Kyrie Irving received some bad news. The MVP candidate will reportedly miss both the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs due to said injury.

To say that this is a major blow for Boston’s championship hopes would be a major understatement. Irving has played the part of a top-10 MVP candidate in his first season with the Celtics. Despite likely finishing as the No. 2 seed back east, it’s now almost a foregone conclusion that Boston will ultimately fall short if its championship aspirations.

It’s simply too much to rely on youngsters Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to lead this team against more veteran competition back east, primarily the Toronto Raptors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Prior to going down to injury, Irving was averaging 24.4 points an 5.1 assists on 49 percent shooting. That will be impossible for Boston to replace come playoff time.
