The Cleveland Indians have made a couple of large donations to help folks recovering from Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, giving away a playoff share to the recovery efforts.

According to Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com, “A full share of the Indians’ playoff pool last year was worth $36,782.74.”

The Indians donated $18,400 to Nuestra Escuela, a high school in Caguas where former Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor and catcher Roberto Perez attended school and grew up. Lindor was present Monday to present the check to student leaders at the school.

The rest of the playoff share was donated to a nonprofit group called Extra Bases, Inc., which is a non-government organization founded by former MLB player Carlos Delgado.

Per Hoynes, “Delgado will give 100 percent of the donation to Albergue Jesus de Nazareth, a home for abused children in Mayaguez. The donation will help rebuild the baseball field and provide new sports equipment for the facility.”

The Indians will present the check to Delgado on Tuesday when they begin their two-game series against the Minnesota Twins in San Juan.
