Hornets fire head coach Steve Clifford

The Charlotte Hornets will have a new coach in 2018-19. Friday, the team announced it has relieved Steve Clifford of his position.

Clifford spent the last five seasons leading the organization, making two playoff appearances but never advancing past the first round.

While his tenure ends unceremoniously, Clifford will be remembered for lifting the Bobcats/Hornets out of a historic hole. During the two seasons prior to his arrival, the franchise posted an embarrassing 28-120 record — including an NBA record-worst .106 winning percentage in 2011-12.

But as the roster talent improved, Charlotte failed to make the necessary leap. In each of the last two years, Charlotte finished 36-46 and missed the postseason.
