Hawks reportedly interviewing David Fizdale for head coaching job

David Fizdale

The Atlanta Hawks are wasting no time looking to replace recently departed head coach Mike Budenholzer. According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, Atlanta is interviewing former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale for the same position on Saturday.

Fizdale was unceremoniously ousted from his role as the Grizzlies head coach after less than two full seasons this past November. It was not necessarily a popular move around the NBA.

An assistant with Miami from 2008-2016, Fizdale was previously a part of Mike Woodson’s coaching staff with Atlanta. So he has a built-in connection with the organization.

Coming off a 2017-18 season that saw Atlanta boast a 24-58 record, they’re in need of a coach that can help continue what promises to be a long-term rebuild. Fizdale might be that guy.
