Florida State QB Deondre Francois cited for possession of marijuana

Deondre Francois

Florida State starting quarterback Deondre Francois will not take part in Saturday’s spring game after police in Tallahassee cited the signal caller for possession of 17 grams of marijuana on Thursday.

Per the Tallahassee Democrat, police had been monitoring Francois for two months before rading his home earlier in the week.

“Before getting a search warrant to go into the home of Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois looking for drugs, Tallahassee Police for more than two months surveilled and seized multiple items they believed were connected to narcotics activity occurring there,” the report read.

No criminal charges will be filed against Francois, who ultimately agreed to enter into a diversion program. First-year Seminoles head coach Willie Taggart also said the program is aware of the situation and “it is being handled internally.”

Francois suffered a season-ending patellar tendon injury in the opener last year. Prior to that, he put up 3,350 yards with 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions back in 2016. It’s not yet known just how this might impact Francois and his future with the Seminoles.
