Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire recovering after getting hit by BP ball

It’s not everyday that you hear of a manager getting injured. But Detroit Tigers skipper Ron Gardenhire is experiencing just that after getting hit by a line drive in batting practice.

Per Evan Woodberry of MLive.com, Gardenhire was standing behind the protective netting. But a hooked line drive off the bat of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia caught him.

“It hurts. It hurt when it hit me, too, but I couldn’t let them see it,” Gardenhire said, per Woodberry. “It got me. … I didn’t expect it. I was behind the screen. It just hooked over the screen and smoked me.”

That certainly sounds quite painful.

The good news for Detroit is that Gardenhire has not missed any games because of it.
