Steelers hope to get long-term deal done with Le’Veon Bell within a week

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell has not been shy about his desire to ink a long-term deal with the team. He has made it clear that he does not want to be franchise tagged again.

This is something that the Steelers are currently working on. General manager Kevin Colbert had this to share about how things are proceeding with Bell’s representatives.

“I don’t like to get into too much detail,” Colbert said about the deal, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “I can say that I am optimistic that we can find common ground. Those things are never final until they are final. Until we reach an agreement we don’t have anything right now.”

Colbert also said that he hopes a deal can be worked out by March 6. This would be the final day a team can franchise tag a player. Bell received a franchise tag last season and was not happy about that either. He held out on all of the team’s offseason activities and practices as a result.

Bell wants to set a new market for running backs and has threatened to retire if tagged this season. He has also been posting some mysterious things to his social media which have sparked speculations about his future with the Steelers.

It appears the Steelers are attempting to make something happen for Bell. And, they recently made some moves that cleared up some more salary cap space.

With only a handful of days left for both sides to come to reach an agreement, something is going to crack here very soon.
