Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory hasn’t played since the end of the 2016 season after being suspended by the NFL for repeated violations of the league’s drug of abuse policy.
However, according to David Moore of SportsDay, Gregory is doing well and on track to apply for his reinstatement sometime in the near future.
“There are still steps to take and paperwork to file before Gregory is close to going before commissioner Roger Goodell to petition for his reinstatement. But sources say he is doing well, adhering to his program and the feeling around him is said to be positive.”
Coming out of Nebraska in 2015, Gregory had red flags for previous failed drug tests. The Cowboys took a gamble selecting him No. 60 overall that year, and his rookie season was marred by injuries. Then before the 2016 campaign, he was suspended four games after testing positive for marijuana. While he was suspended, he tested positive again, earning another suspension, this time for 10 games.
The young man did play the final two games of the 2016 season but was once again in trouble ahead of last year’s campaign. He was suspended throughout the 2017 season due to his repeated failed drug tests, which Machato notes were at least five in number.
In his two seasons with Dallas, Gregory appeared in 14 games, tallying just 20 tackles and one sack.
