Report: Pitt fires Kevin Stallings

The Pitt Panthers failed to win a conference game during the entire 2017-18 season, and they wasted little time making the expected move, firing Kevin Stallings.

Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette broke the news, which was expected after a report emerged Wednesday that Stallings would meet with athletic director Heather Lyke to discuss a buyout.

Stallings arrived at the school prior to the 2016 campaign following 17 years at Vanderbilt. In two seasons with the Panthers, though, his teams mustered just a 24-41 overall record with an abysmal 4-32 mark in ACC play.

The brutal truth is Pitt cannot afford to fall further behind in the conference, since it’s typically one of the nation’s most competitive leagues. The buyout is worth the price.

Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley is expected to be a top candidate for the position, per Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports.
