On Tuesday, a report emerged that the New England Patriots made a contract offer to quarterback AJ McCarron, but on Wednesday that was shot down as “completely false” by Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.
Reports that the @Patriots offered free agent QB A.J. McCarron a contract are completely false, league source confirms.

As things stand, McCarron is still a free agent. He is a quarterback garnering very little interest compared to many of the other former free agent signal callers striking new deals as we speak.
The Patriots definitely need a long-term solution at backup quarterback behind Tom Brady. But it does not appear that guy is McCarron. McCarron has played in only 11 NFL games, starting in just three with the Cincinnati Bengals.
It is not surprising that teams are not jumping out of the woodwork to sign him.
