Report: One NFL team has Lamar Jackson as second-rated QB in draft

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the most intriguing players in the 2018 NFL draft

Given the level of competition atop the quarterback rankings this year heading into the draft, it’s going to be fascinating to see how the dominoes fall in late April. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, at least one NFL team views Louisville product Lamar Jackson as the second-best quarterback on the board.

This is pretty significant, especially considering some NFL teams wanted Jackson to work out as a receiver and that there have been calls for him to change position ahead of the draft.

It’s also significant considering the other quarterbacks that could be considered top picks have some serious clout — Josh Allen has the biggest arm since JaMarcus Russell, Josh Rosen is the best pure passer, Sam Darnold has all those intangibles and Baker Mayfield is both smart and deadly accurate.

It shows that some talent evaluators are willing to look beyond the fact that Jackson can run like the wind and make defenders look silly while doing so. It shows that at least a few men and women are seeing things clearly — Lamar Jackson is an elite quarterback talent who has the makings of a franchise passer.
