Report: Marcus Smart out indefinitely after tearing tendon in thumb

Marcus Smart

The Boston Celtics will not have guard Marcus Smart in the lineup for quite some time after he reportedly tore a tendon in his thumb.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported it first, noting the injury was being called a sprain but was still under scrutiny.

Shortly after this, Shams Charania of The Vertical reported the tendon was torn, and that Smart will be seeking a second opinion.

This is just awful news for the Celtics, who are also without star point guard Kyrie Irving right now (more on that here).

This injury marks the second time this year that Smart has been forced to miss extended time, the first being the unfortunate incident in which he punched a picture frame and lacerated his hand.

On the season, Smart is averaging nearly 30 minutes a game, putting up 10.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
