Report: Georgia meeting with Tom Crean

Georgia needs a new basketball coach, and the program is exploring the possibility of hiring current ESPN analyst Tom Crean.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported Crean, who last oversaw the Indiana program, will meet with the school Thursday.

The 51-year-old spent 31 years on the sideline prior to the current campaign, working his way through the coaching ranks before taking over at Marquette in 1999. He stayed there nine seasons and enjoyed a run to the Final Four with Dwyane Wade.

Indiana hired Crean in 2008, but he never advanced past the Sweet 16 in nine years with the proud basketball school. Since then, he has served primarily as a studio analyst for ESPN.

Incidentally, Indiana fired Crean practically when first opening-round game of the 2017 tournament tipped off. Thamel’s report comes exactly one year later on the basketball calendar.

Georgia fired Mark Fox after the team reached March Madness just twice in nine years and lost in the opening round both times.
