Report: Eagles expected to release DE Vinny Curry

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly set to release defensive end Vinny Curry in a cap-savings move ahead of the new league year.

As Ian Rapoport of NFL Media notes, Curry was set to earn $9 million in 2018. He still has $6 million in dead cap after signing a lucrative five-year deal in 2016, but this move still allows Philly some needed leeway to make other moves and shore up areas of need on its roster.

Curry has been a valuable role player for the Eagles but was relegated to a lesser role in recent years, especially after the team drafted Derek Barnett in the first round last year. He’ll likely have no trouble landing on his feet after being released, but there’s no way the Eagles could justify paying him $9 million for the role he occupied.
