Recently signed Giants DE Josh Mauro suspended four games

Signed to a one-year contract just a few short days ago, New York Giants defensive end Josh Mauro is now facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy against performance enhancing drugs (PEDs).

“Josh Mauro of the New York Giants has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2018 regular season for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances,” the NFL said in a statement, via the Giants’ official website.

For his part, the veteran defender responded to the suspension immediately after it was announced.

“While I take full responsibility for this suspension, I want to clarify that my test showed traces of a banned stimulant from a preworkout supplement bought over the counter,” Mauro said, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “While I didn’t and would never intentionally put anything in my body that was a banned substance, I wholeheartedly honor and respect the NFL’s drug testing policy and I take full accountability.”

Released by the Arizona Cardinals last Friday after three-plus seasons with the team, the 27-year-old Mauro signed with New York earlier this week. He’s coming off a 2017 campaign that saw him record 22 tackles in 13 games (seven starts).
