As NFL teams prepare for the start of free agency next week, the league is seeing a ton of player movement. That now includes a Tennessee Titans team that surprised the masses by earning a playoff spot last season.
Tennessee announced on Friday that it has released veterans Matt Cassel, Eric Weems and Da’Norris Searcy.
The Titans have informed QB Matt Cassel, S Da’Norris Searcy and WR Eric Weems that they will be released.

Cassel, 35, came to the Titans as Marcus Mariota’s primary backup in 2016. In two seasons with the team, he’s thrown three touchdowns compared to four interceptions in two starts. A former Pro Bowler with the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2010, Cassel will likely draw interest as a veteran backup in free agency.
The release of Searcy is not really surprising, as he lost his starting safety job with the team last season. A former fourth-round pick of Buffalo back in 2011, Searcy started 33 games in three seasons with the Titans. Weems has been nothing more than a special teams player throughout his NFL career, and became expendable with the youngers Tennessee has on the roster.
By releasing the three, Tennessee saves nearly $8 million in cap room. The team is now $59 million under the 2018 cap heading into free agency.
