Dan Marino and John Elway are legendary quarterbacks who now hold an executive position with their former team, and they’re both involved with trying to find a new signal-caller. Top prospect Josh Allen must’ve been a little starstruck.
According to Peter King of the MMQB, Allen messed up the names during a meeting with the Miami Dolphins.
“Excited to meet a Hall of Fame quarterback during his meeting with the Dolphins, called Dan Marino ‘Mr. Elway.’ Oops.”
Way to ruin your chances with the Dolphins, Josh.
Jokes aside, it’s both a humorous and unfortunate mistake. Draft prospects want to ace their interview with every team, and calling one legend a different guy certainly wasn’t an ideal first impression. Fortunately for Allen, it doesn’t really matter.
If Elway and the Denver Broncos don’t pick Allen with the No. 5 overall pick, the Wyoming product could fall to Marino and Miami at No. 11. Although the Dolphins aren’t as likely to select a quarterback, the first encounter between Allen and the team would become a hilarious memory if they grab him.
