Yankees GM: Russell Wilson could get spring training at-bat

Russell Wilson put on a show during New York Yankees batting practice on Monday. Now, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback might soon get a chance against more impressive pitching.

“Yankees GM Brian Cashman said he’s not opposed to Russell Wilson taking an at-bat in a spring training game. Said he’d like to hear from Pete Carroll first – called himself a fan of the Seahawks head coach,” ESPN’s Marly Rivera reported.

It’s certainly understandable that the Yankees would want to get Carroll’s blessing first.

While there are some risks in batting, the more pressing concern would be Wilson running the bases. While the odds are fine that Wilson would be okay on the bases, the chances of an injury happening there are greater.

In two years in Minor League ball, Wilson slashed at .229/.354/.356 and hit five home runs in 93 games. We’d certainly like to see what kind of bat he has against MLB competition.
