Tyronn Lue has perfect response to Steve Kerr letting his players coach

Tyronn Lue

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr pulled some more magic out his bag of tricks for Monday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns, letting his players call the plays during timeouts. In reality, the players actually coached the game in what would ultimately become a 129-83 win over Phoenix.

This odd decision was met with some criticism around the basketball world. Veteran Suns big man Jared Dudley believes that it was disrespectful towards his team.

Meanwhile, Suns interim head coach Jay Triano had no issue with it.

For some reason, the basketball world has been buzzing about this in the day following Kerr’s odd decision. We can add Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue to the growing list to give an opinion. Though, Lue’s take is probably the most genius of them all thus far.

“I wouldn’t do that. They already say LeBron’s coaching the team anyway, so if I give him the clipboard they’re really gonna say that,” Lue said, via ESPN’s Royce Young.”

That really is perfectly played. Not to mention reactionary fans around the basketball world, we can just envision how the media would respond if James was out there holding a clip board and calling plays.

Not only has James been accused of being the team’s head coach, some actually believe — despite evidence to the contrary — that he has a huge role in Cleveland’s personnel decisions.

In any event, Kerr was fed-up with his team’s dumb turnovers and inability to play first quarter defense over the past several games. In turn, he decided to say “all heck with it,” and let the players coach themselves. It resulted in a 46-point win against one of the Association’s worst teams.
