Report: Tyler Eifert cleared to play in 2018

Tyler Eifert

Tyler Eifert missed a majority of the 2017 season due to a back injury, but the Cincinnati Bengals tight end has recovered in time for free agency.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Eifert has been cleared to participate in OTAs (organized team activities) this spring and play in 2018.

Eifert, who only appeared in two games last season, also had a surgery to remove a cyst on his knee. Unfortunately for him, it was simply the latest chapter of injuries hampering the promising player’s career.

A first-round pick of the Bengals in 2013, Eifert caught 39 passes for 445 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. But a dislocated elbow ended his 2014 campaign in the season opener. Then, he amassed 52 receptions for 615 yards and 13 scores in 2015.

However, an ankle injury in the Pro Bowl delayed his 2016 debut for six weeks, and he later missed two more games. Finally, the back and knee issues shortened his 2017.

Eifert will be a valued free agent, but interested teams must weigh the risk of signing an All-Pro talent with all-world injury problems.
