Report: Stanford QB K.J. Costello likely to miss spring practices with hip injury

After coming on like a runaway freight train last year as a sophomore for Stanford, quarterback K.J. Costello will reportedly miss most of spring practices with a hip injury.

Per Bruce Feldman of SI.com, “Costello is expected to be held out of full drills for spring football due to a hip injury, a source has told SI.”

Sophomore Davis Mills and junior Jack Richardson are the other two quarterbacks currently on the roster. So assuming the hip injury doesn’t keep Costello from participating in summer camp, this shouldn’t have any impact on him as the expected starter for the Cardinal in 2018. That said, this could be a blessing in disguise as the other two quarterbacks will get valuable reps in practice.

Last season, Costello passed for 1,573 yards to lead Stanford while throwing 14 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He replaced Keller Chryst as the full-time starter and sparked the team’s passing offense in a big way. Chryst has since left the program as a graduate transfer.
