Report: Jaguars extend head coach Doug Marrone, GM Dave Caldwell

Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone

The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to head into the offseason with a sense of stability for the first time in a long while. Following an impressive 2017 campaign that saw the team nearly earn a Super Bowl appearance, Jacksonville has reportedly extended head coach Doug Marrone, general manager Dave Caldwell and executive VP Tom Coughlin.

In no way should this come as that much of a surprise. Marrone took over a Jaguars team that was 2-12 late in the 2016 season and has since posted an 11-7 record. For comparison’s sake, those 11 wins are as much as Jacksonville had posted in its previous 50 games before Marrone took over.

For his part, Caldwell has helped build this team from the ground up with some of the best draft classes in the NFL over the past several years. Coughlin himself rejoined the Jaguars as executive VP prior to last season after spending 12 years as the New York Giants’ head coach. He was previously the Jags’ head coach from 1995-2002.
