Report: 49ers among teams expected to show interest in Pro Bowl WR Allen Robinson

Wide receiver Allen Robinson will become a free agent in March should he and the Jaguars fail to come to terms on a new deal before then.

If Robinson does wish to explore other options, the San Francisco 49ers are among a handful of a teams expected to show a high level of interest. This news comes courtesy of NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The idea of Robinson coming to San Francisco would pair him up with a head coach in Kyle Shanahan who absolutely loved the receiver heading into the 2014 NFL Draft.

A potential signing would also see Robinson work with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo who was part of his 2014 draft class. The 49ers currently have the third-most salary cap space, giving them the necessary cash to pony up a huge contract for the former Pro Bowler.

Robinson certainly is worthy of one after producing at a high level with the Jaguars. He was a rock star in 2015, tallying 1,400 yards and a league-high 14 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Robinson is coming off a torn ACL he suffered in Week 1 of the 2017 season. Though, that should not be an issue when it comes to suiting up to start next season.

Among the other teams bandied about by Rapoport, the Washington Redskins and Chicago Bears also make a lot of sense. If he does hit free agency, Robinson will be among the most-coveted skill-position guys on the market.
