The Tampa Bay Rays continued their fire sale on Tuesday, sending outfielder Steven Souza Jr. to the Arizona Diamondbacks. At least one of their players is unhappy about it.

Brent Honeywell — MLB.com’s 12th ranked prospect who will likely debut in 2018 — seemed a bit perplexed about the most-recent trade.

Honeywell is not alone in his frustration.

Even prior to the Souza trade, Tampa outfielder Kevin Kiermaier expressed frustration with the team’s decision to designate Corey Dickerson for assignment. Pitcher Jake Odorizzi was also recently traded, while longtime third baseman Evan Longoria was dealt earlier in the offseason.

Certainly, the Rays have struggled in recent years. They haven’t made the playoffs or even had a winning season since 2013. That would suggest that a rebuild may be the right move.

But for someone who’s about ready to debut with a team that’s trading so many of its MLB caliber players for prospects, we certainly get the confusion.
