Nick Saban and Co. received tremendous news Wednesday when 5-star cornerback Patrick Surtain picked the Alabama Crimson Tide for his football future.

Surtain tabbed the Tide over the LSU Tigers and Miami Hurricanes.

He’s the son of former All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain, who played for the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. The three-time Pro Bowler is now the coach at American Heritage.

The younger Surtain was the top available recruit in the country heading into national signing day, checking in as the country’s best corner and No. 6 overall player, per the 247Sports’ composite rankings.

In high school, he collected 48 tackles and five interceptions while forming a lockdown duo with Tyson Campbell — who chose Georgia on Wednesday. The duo helped American Heritage win consecutive state championships.

Surtain will likely earn playing time as a freshman, and he has a real chance to secure a starting role on a retooling Alabama defense.
