Mississippi State recruit charged with felony assault

One of the many Mississippi State 2018 football recruits may never make his way to Starkville. Three-star commit Nathaniel Watson Jr. was just recently charged with felony assault stemming from a car accident earlier in February.

The accident itself occurred just outside of Maplesville High School when Watson and fellow senior Tyrone Davis lined up for a race in their vehicles.

“The accident occurred after Tyrone Davis, also a student at MHS, lined up in front of the school with his vehicle along with Nathaniel Watson’s vehicle for a race, witnesses stated that they lined up side by side and floored it, and both vehicles were squalling their tires and fishtailing up the highway heading into town,” a Maplesville Police Department press release read. “As the racing vehicles topped a hill, an oncoming car caused Nathaniel Watson Jr. to swerve and lose control striking a power pole, cutting it in half and knocking power out to portions of Maplesville.”

The passenger in Watson’s car suffered a crushed femur, fractured pelvis, a broken right arm and had internal injuries.

Given that this is a felony, it’s not yet known whether Watson will suit up for Mississippi State as a freshman this fall. His legal problems are more of an issue right now.
