In conjunction with the five-year contract the Detroit Lions extended to new head coach Matt Patricia, general manager Bob Quinn has landed an extension that ties him to Patricia for the same time frame.
The Lions announced the move on Friday.
“I am pleased that we have reached an agreement with Bob on an extension to his contract,” Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford said. “I believe the Lions’ football organization is well positioned for success under his leadership together with the addition of our new Head Coach, Matt Patricia.”
Quinn also issued a statement about the move.
“Thank you to Mrs. Ford, her family, and Rod Wood for their continued support and belief in my ability to lead this football team. My goals and vision remain unchanged and I will continue to work diligently at improving this team and every facet of the football operation. Coach Patricia and I will always work in close concert on any and all football-related matters. That process is underway as our coaching and player personnel staffs are collectively preparing for the roster building phase of the off-season.”
Quinn, a former personnel assistant, scout and executive with the New England Patriots, came over to Detroit in 2016 as the general manager. He is responsible for the deal that (at the time) made Matthew Stafford the highest-paid player in the league and was influential in bringing Patricia to Detroit. Now, the fate of the organization rests in the hands of these two men, who are joined at the hip.
