Last September, Arkansas State was gearing up for a huge home game against Miami, which never occurred due to Hurricane Irma. Now, the Red Wolves are threatening to sue Miami if they don’t get paid $650,000 by Feb. 15, 2018, per KAIT 8 in Arkansas.
Arkansas State’s general counsel, Brad Phelps, sent a letter to Miami responding to the Hurricanes saying they couldn’t reschedule until either 2024 or 2025. In it, he fired back at Miami, arguing the Hurricanes could visit in 2020 or 2021 if they wanted to, but are choosing to put this on the back burner.
“It is very unfortunate that we have been unable to resolve this matter, and we remain hopeful this can be worked out without the need for litigation. Ultimately that will be up to the University of Miami.”
Additionally, Phelps referenced a quote by Miami head coach Mark Richt, per the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, who actually did say that the Hurricanes could have traveled to Jonesboro if they wanted to last September. However, the hurricane situation was more important in the minds of Miami’s players and coaches, so they didn’t go.
Now Miami has to decide what to do in response to this threat of litigation.
