Report: Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy’s brain donated for CTE research

Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy has passed away at the age of 48.

Hall of Fame offensive tackle Cortez Kennedy passed away in May of 2017. On Monday, TMZ Sports reported the former Seattle Seahawk, whose autopsy revealed his death was caused by hypertensive heart disease, donated his brain for CTE research.

“The report shows Kennedy’s family requested the ex-NFL star’s brain be sent to the Boston University CTE Center for further examination,” TMZ Sports shared.

Based on the way his peers reacted when the news of his passing broke, this is hardly surprising. He was a stand-up man, beloved by all who knew him. He was also honored by the Seahawks this past season.

The Boston University CTE Center is known internationally for its work and has studied the brains of several deceased NFL stars including Aaron Hernandez and Dave Duerson, per TMZ Sports.
