One of the more hilarious stories we covered leading up to the NFC Championship Game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings involved Crisco. The city of Philadelphia had “Crisco Cops” out in force Sunday morning before the game to grease up light poles so that fans couldn’t climb on them following the game.

What’s really funny is that, at least in some cases, it didn’t make a difference.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way. And by God, if you grease up a light pole so I won’t climb it, you better believe I’m going to figure out a way to climb that sucker.

Now comes the kicker. As a totally unintentional byproduct of all the Crisco used up by the Crisco Cops in Philly, the company garnered some serious press time. Which, in turn, led to free advertising.

Suddenly, I’m hungry for some delicious, home-cooked apple pie.
