Matt Nagy takes ownership of Chiefs’ collapse, says he ‘called every single play’

New Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy fessed up to something pretty significant Tuesday during his introductory press conference. He told reporters that the second-half collapse of the Kansas City Chiefs offense against the Tennessee Titans was on him.

That’s pretty brave. He called it a learning opportunity, which no doubt it was.

Fans and analysts pointing to that as a potential downfall here need to remember, Kyle Shanahan did pretty much the same thing on an even bigger stage as a member of the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. That didn’t seem to hurt him this past year as the rookie head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

Additionally, Nagy had the Chiefs on a serious hot streak before that second-half meltdown. This is a team that was scoring points in bunches and racking up offense the final four weeks of the regular season, and during the first half of that game.

Nagy has some very intriguing pieces to work with in Chicago and should have an immediate, positive influence on the offense. Rumor has it he actually chose the Bears over the Indianapolis Colts, in part due to the shady health of Andrew Luck. We can’t wait to see what happens next.
